On July 25 2015, Caracol Television received an award as the first TV channel in Latin America to include audio description for the blind with a second screen feature
Mr. Angel Garcia Crespo (Coordinator at the Melisa Ibero-American Network for the Promotion and Development of Audiovisual Accessibility) highlighted Caracol TV's initiative to broadcast shows with audio description as an important contribution towards the construction of inclusive societies. He remarked that this facilitates the inclusion of people with disabilities, whose access to culture is usually difficult. Caracol Television's show "Entre Ojos" (Saturdays, 11 p.m.) included audio description in 15 cultural documentaries. The "magic" was possible through the use of the Whatscine app for cellphones and tablets with iOS or Android operating systems. This technology allows blind people to synchronize a parallel audio and the program in order to listen to the description of additional details. The award was received by Juan Manuel Beltran, Caracol Television's Corporate Responsibility Advisor and promoter of this initiative, during the most recent version of Cinema For All. It is a project that also promotes accessibility in the audiovisual field. ATmedios is proud to be part of this achievement as a pioneer in the country in the field of audio description for movies and television. We will continue to support every public and private initiative to generate more accessibility options in areas such as theater, museums and educational portals, among others.
