Audio description in Colombian television for the first time

Details
Created: 19 October 2015

Caracol Television will offer the audio description service for people who are blind or have low vision. The documentary "Entre Ojos" will be the first to offer this system starting on Saturday, November 29 at 11:00 p.m.

Viewers of the "Entre Ojos" set of documentaries, which will be aired on Saturday night, will have access to audio description through the WhatsCine application for cell phones and tablets. These should be connected to a WiFi network or use navigation data as the show is broadcast. This app, available for download on your iOS or Android device, synchronizes audio from the audiovisual production and its dialogues with the descriptions that have been inserted previously. The application can be downloaded for free.

Audio description describes in a concise and objective manner the main visual elements of the broadcast content, such as scenarios, costumes, body language and character appearance, among others.

ATmedios has developed accessibility systems for more than 30 productions, among short films and movies, which have been screened in cinemas, as part of special cultural initiatives by public and private entities in Colombia. Now, audio description will be used for the first time in Colombian television as part of Caracol Television's corporate responsibility program.

The first documentary to be audio described will be "The Children of Cumanday - Nevado del Ruiz". It will be aired on Saturday, November 29 at 11:00 p.m., after "Sabados Felices."

Caracol Television invites blind or low vision audience in Colombia to be part of this initiative. You can send your comments and questions to This email address is being protected from spambots.
