WhatsCine is the application for personal smartphones and tablets that allows people with audiovisual impairments to access audio description and sign language or subtitles in movie theatres. The app is already available for the films that are part of the project “Movies for Everyone” in Bogotá, Cali and Bucaramanga, which takes place every second and last Saturday of the month in selected Cine Colombia theaters.
How to use WhatsCine in Android:
- Enter Google Play and download the app WhatsCine.
- Once inside the theater, select the network “Cine para Todos”.
- Select the corresponding city.
- In the Accessibility menu, choose the option you need (audio description or subtitles).
- The application will start synchronizing the audio description or the subtitles with those playing in the movie, even if the movie has already started.
Android versions 4.02, 4.03 and 4.04 are not compatible with WhatsCine.
How to use WhatsCine in iOS:
- Download the WhatsCine application from the app store (Have your Apple ID information ready, you will need it during the installation process).
- Once the user is inside the theater, select Adjustments >> Wi-Fi and connect to the “Cine para Todos” network, this is an open network (no passport required).
- Go to the application and select the corresponding city.
- In the Accessibility menu, choose the option you need (audio description or subtitles).
- The application will start synchronizing the audio description or the subtitles with those playing in the movie, even if the movie has already started.
Recommendations and more information…
- You don’t need to have a data plan in your phone to use WhatsCine because an internal network is available within the theater; however, it is important that you have downloaded the app before entering the theater.
- Don’t forget to bring your headphones so that you can hear the audio description.
- Make sure your smartphone or tablet is fully charged.
- Note that the subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing users are already included in the movies projected under the project “Movies for Everyone”.
