For the first time, under the project “Movies for Everyone” a Colombian movie premiere was also available for deaf or hard of hearing people, as well as for blind people using audio description and subtitling services.
With over ten years of experience bringing accessibility to audiovisual contents, ATmedios is integrating these technologies with a movie set to premiere in theatres across the country. The movie entitled, We’re Going to the World Cup, is directed by Fernando Ayllón and was previewed on April 26 2014 in selected Cine Colombia cinemas in Bogotá, Cali, Medellin, Bucaramanga, Pereira and Monteria.
With audio description, blind audiences have a detailed and descriptive narration of the film. This includes gestures, movements, attitudes, landscapes, outfits and colours among others. Similarly, deaf and hard of hearing publics accessed relevant information such as speaker identification, sound effects, voice off, intonations, laughs and music with the incorporated subtitles.
The visually impaired audiences in Bogotá, Cali, and Bucaramanga also had the option of listening the audio description through the WhatsCine application which is available for download on their personal tablets or smartphones for both iOS and Android operating systems.
Since 2013 more than 6,000 people in the aforementioned cities have been enjoying these accessible technologies within the “Movies for Everyone” project. A project sponsored by the ICT Ministry, the Saldarriaga Concha Foundation and Cine Colombia, with the goal of offering new entertainment and inclusion spaces to people with audiovisual impairments.
