"Lady and the Tramp" will be the first film to be screened and will be presented on February 6th, in six cities in Colombia, starting the "Movies for Everyone" program for 2014.
With 49 shows in movie theaters in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Bucaramanga, Montería and Pereira, more than six thousand people assisted to 10 films' screenings during 2013. People with visual, hearing, cognitive or physical impairments, were able to enjoy this entertainment with family and friends.
For 2014, "Movies for everyone" will have as a new feature, Spanish subtitles produced by ATmedios. These subtitles are produced complying with the accessibility standards for the hearing impaired, with the identification of the characters speaking, and with indications for intonation, voice-overs, laughter, and music among other elements.
The project led by the Ministry of Communications with the Saldarriaga Concha Foundation and in collaboration with Cine Colombia is supported by ATmedios' experience producing audio description. With this accessibility system, blind or visually impaired people, and people with cognitive disabilities, enjoy descriptive details in the film, like gestures, movements, attitudes, scenery, costumes, colors, among others. It doesn't narrate the film, neither tells about the mood or intentions of the characters, but allows people to get to their own conclusions.
We expect for more Colombians to get to know about this project and its accessibility systems, and share it not only with people with disabilities but with everyone who believes in inclusion.
